Build Spotlight: 1990 Vesuvio Gray G Wagon

Vesuvio Gray 250GD Wolf

Expedition Motor Company (EMC) has become the leader in G Class Gelandewagen restoration, reviving each vehicle from the ground up with a focus on long-term drivability and craftsmanship. Every build represents years of knowledge and refinement, and this 1990 250GD Wolf finished in Vesuvio Gray is no exception. With over 160 EMC Wolfs completed and delivered, our restoration process continues to evolve, ensuring each custom G Wagon we produce feels more refined than the last.

Built to Be Driven

This 1990 250GD Wolf has undergone our full 2,300 man-hour restoration process, resulting in a convertible G Wagon that blends vintage simplicity with modern functionality. From the frame to the smallest hardware, every component has been rebuilt, replaced, or upgraded. This Mercedes G Class offers a focused, analog driving experience that remains true to the original character of the 250GD—while benefiting from the enhancements we've developed over years of engineering and testing.

Key features include:

  • EMC’s upgraded brake system for stronger, more confident stopping power

  • Proprietary suspension for improved handling and comfort on and off-road

  • Lightweight aluminum vintage-style wheels

  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and backup camera

  • Air conditioning and heated seats

  • Harman premium sound system

  • Weatherproof interior materials throughout

Timeless Styling

Vesuvio Gray is a beautiful metallic color that comes alive when in the direct sunlight. It pairs nicely with this build's Mushroom interior, adding warmth and contrast without  overwhelming the aesthetic. Like all EMC Wolfs, this truck includes two soft top options—a bikini top for open-air driving with front-passenger coverage, and a full soft top with roll-up side curtains that delivers a more enclosed safari-style experience when desired.

Interior Design

The cabin is finished in weatherproof materials designed to endure years of use in a variety of conditions. While staying true to the vintage convertible Mercedes interior aesthetic, we've infused key upgrades to elevate the daily usability of the Wolf—without compromising its rugged DNA. Inside, you’ll find USB and USB-C charging ports, a Wireless Apple CarPlay touch screen, and thoughtful sound system integration—all part of EMC’s effort to preserve simplicity while enhancing function.

Engineered to Last

This 2-door 250GD Wolf is powered by the bulletproof OM602 diesel engine, mated to a Mercedes 722.6 5-speed automatic gearbox. The drivetrain has been fully rebuilt and rigorously tested in-house to ensure performance, reliability, and drivability. As with all of our builds, the focus is on delivering a product that not only looks period-correct, but also drives with purpose and ease for decades to come. For those who prefer a manual transmission G Wagon, you can commission a custom build or view our other currently available inventory.
